Dear Parents November 2008 Keeping everyone informed of all the events and happenings at Waterloo is a constant challenge. We try a whole range of methods from the website and text messaging to the straight forward specific letter home. This newsletter, however does try to bring everything together and give you a flavour of what is to coming up over the next few weeks. HMI/OFSTED Visit Last Wednesday we were visited by ‘Her Majesty’s Inspectorate’ to view good practice in the way we look after children and ensure everyone has the opportunity to shine. This work took place as a consequence of our successful full inspection in February 2008. Their findings will be published in a national document in July 2009. The day was rigorous and both staff and pupils performed superbly. I feel proud the school was chosen as a national exemplar of good practice. Harvest Festival All the donated produce went to Street Life a local Blackpool charity. We received heartfelt thanks from their co-ordinator Tony Riley. Remembrance Every year I take three Y6 pupils to Marton and Layton cemeteries to lay wreaths at the headstones of fallen former pupils of Waterloo. A big thank you to the British Legion for organising the visit. 1p and 2p collection Thank you to everyone that donated their loose change to the school collection. We raised a fantastic £800.00. This money will now be used to help replace the equipment damaged in the fire. Toy Fair – Tuesday 25th November 2008 (3:40pm – 4:30pm) The School Council will be holding its usual charity toy fair later this month. We would be grateful if you could send in any toys or games, that are still in good condition but your child no longer plays with. We will start collecting toys from next Monday, 17th November. Year 6 Fruit We are currently providing a free piece of fruit for every Y6 child every day at break time. As all the children in Y6 have agreed to take part in the project there should be no need to send a snack to school. Dinner money and trip money Dinner money costs £8.50 per week and should be paid on Mondays. Dinner Money should be put in an envelope for the child to hand to their class teacher. Trip money should also be put in an envelope with the completed consent slip and handed to the class teacher as soon as possible. Dates Friday 14th November Y6 Trip to Preston War Museum School closes on Friday 19th December at 2pm School opens on Monday 5th January at normal time This half term is always so hectic and full but one the children love and the staff look forward to.
