Year 2 at Waterloo School
Welcome to Year 2 Print E-mail
Written by Miss M Cherry

title

Year two is the final year of Key Stage One. Work previously covered in Year One is extended and consolidated and the children become able to work independently for sustained periods of time.
The three Year 2 classes follow the same curriculum and the pupils' work is planned together on a weekly basis by the Y2 teachers; Mrs S Tong [Y2ST], Mrs C Hacker [Y2CH] and the Year 2 leader Miss M Cherry, [Y2MC].
Throughout the year the children will complete SATs tests and tasks in English and Maths. They are also assessed by the teacher and the level is reported to parents in annual reports.

We love to read at home and school.

In the Autumn term Year 2 we thoroughly enjoyed our 'Light and Dark' topic. This included a visit to "The World of Glass" as part of their studies in Science and we were visited at school by Barn Owl Bill who taught us all about owls.

Year 2 homework

Homework is set on a Friday, which is usually in the form of spellings to practise at home. These can be found in your child's homework book.

Home work is to be completed each week and returned to school by the following Tuesday.

Please take time to read with your child for ten minutes every night, and add a comment, or sign their reading diary. Pupils who practise their reading regularly at home tend to make significant progress and it also helps your child in all areas of the curriculum.
